Ábacoa greenway

Image
The Abacoa greenway was spectacular, Conditions were sunny, and many plants were fruiting and flowering. The area had an interesting irrigation system to keep the pond water circulating. These greenways are artificially created but maintain native populations and ensure the continued existence of native Florida species. Sabal Arecaceae  Callicarpa Americana 02/18/22

Pinecone & Lichen

Image
We did a pinecone exercise in class and a major focus for me was getting the shape right so that I could practice my shading. The final product benefitted from this focus in structure, and I feel I was able to bring a unique look to the pinecone and ultimately felt very satisfied as all characteristic features are apparent. The focus with the lichen I worked on was more geared towards shading. In an effort to practice coloring, and in hopes of creating realistic and scientific art, the complexity of its blue green hue was important to me. The finished product saw me branching out and using coloration more liberally. I also put Dr. Lemeh's advice to work and started contouring the shape of the small trunk it sat on. This later turned into me focusing on having everything simulate shadows which can feel real to the touch. Overall, the final details really bring the piece together. 02/03/2022
